I have had so
much trouble getting a decent picture of these. My photographic skills are usually lacking somewhat anyway, but the colours in these seem to cause my old and warn out camera to have a fit. I took youngest and the camera into the garden as I thought perhaps with full daylight, (such as it is here at this time of year) would produce a better, truer, photo. I won’t even go into how difficult it was in the first place to persuade him to put them on!
What I ended up with for all my trouble was this rather odd photo of two different mitts..
This was a nice quick project. The pattern says to knit a complete tube and then unpick 6 sts on each mitt to pick up stitches for the thumb. I do usually prefer any type of glove to have a thumb gusset rather than just a hole but decided to just go with the pattern. Instead of cutting and unpicking stitches once the mitt was finished I used EZ’s method to make the hole for the thumb. You knit the stitches in waste yarn and then return them back to the left needle and knit them again with the working yarn. When you want to open up the stitches, you simply unpick the waste yarn and pick up the stitches either side. These do not have the fit of a gusseted pair of mitts but the pattern is straightforward and well written; they make a good quick gift project which is what they may become.
I skeined and washed the Icelandic. It is a bit soft but I have a pair of socks in mind with white, (well, sheep fleece white) cuffs, heels and toes with the Icelandic as the body of the socks. I can’t seem to get it out of my head so I shall be stubborn and knit them anyway. I have to spin up some white first though, which is ok as I have other projects I need to concentrate on first.
I am knitting on the Tyrolyean Stockings at the moment, they really need to be done for Christmas. I’m not loving them as much as I did but I know they will be well received so it is spurring me on a bit. I’m also knitting on His hoodie for some TV knitting. I am just over half way to the armholes. I will take some pictures soon.
Colour is not my friend at present. In other news, we are trying to paint the hallway, stairs and landing area. We have long thin passages and decided that whatever colour we chose it had to be very light, probably in the pale green range. We looked at colour charts. We went to look at the shop samples. We bought test pots for the five likely candidates, painted them on the wall and took a long time deliberating. We chose. We went back to the shop only to find out that although they had the testers, they didn’t ever keep more that two tins of that colour. We need more, now. We thought again and looked for our next choice on the shelves. They only had small tins. We chose two more pale green-y colours, bought the testers, went home and put them on the wall. We thought for a while whilst they dried. We chose, went back and bought the paint. We applied the paint to the wall.
Apparently, ( nothing will convince me that the tester and the tins are the same colour) we chose baby blue.
We are still thinking, will it stay, will it go. Stay tuned!!!

I think your yarn choice for these mitts make them much nicer than the original pair!
